Crop Marketing
commodities
As part of the service which we provide to our management clients we sell all of the commodities produced on farm. It has long been thougt that farmers have had prices dictated to them, rather than being able to affect the price they receive for the products which they sell. While this is to some extent true there are certain things which can be done in order to minimise the risks involved and maximise the price received.
The first decision to be made is what crop to grow, am I growing wheat, rape, beans, linseed or another crop, what market will I sell into, energy crops for fuel, bio-ethanol/bio-diesel; and then who will I sell the commodity to. There are many merchants out there vying for your business and it is important to note that the best headline price offered is not always the best choice to make.
Over the past years whilst managing a large area of arable land we have built up an extremely good relationship with many grain merchants both big and small and feel that we are well placed to advise you of the best way of selling your grain as we have no vested interest, unlike a merchant who may wish to buy your crop as and when it suits their book, rather than when it suits your marketing strategy.
Finally we can advise you on the use of certain risk management strategies such as options in order to guard against any upwards or downwards trends in the market.
